Annotated Bibliography for Essay:
1.) [http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/hoover/] Transcript for Film, multiple narrators, 1996-2010
PBS provides not only a full-length video of their program on the Hoover Dam, but also the full transcript for the video. Within the transcript, there are narrations of first hand accounts, from people who were directly involved with the Dam in the period that it was being built. Family of the Dam workers were interviewed as well. This source is a primary source.
2.) [http://www.bcmha.org/history.html], Boulder City History, Boulder City Museum and Historical Foundation, 2005-2010
The Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum and Historical Association website offers some of the sources they have in their museum (located in Nevada) online as well. BCMHA has a history page, with a brief history of how the Dam came to be, and photographs as well. This source should be considered a primary source.
3.) [http://www.usbr.gov/lc/hooverdam/faqs/lakefaqs.html] Hoover Dam, Frequently Asked Questions, Recreation Reclamation Association of Lower Colorado Region, 1999, last reviewed 2008
The first US Bureau of Reclamation source I have is facts only about Lake Mead. The website offers statistics on years of drought, and all surrounding bodies of water to the Hoover Dam. This was obviously an important source because Lake Mead is the place of redistributed water from the Dam.
4.) [http://www.arizona-leisure.com/hoover-dam.html] The Treasure of Arizona, Nevada, and the World, Arizona Leisure, 2000-2007
Arizona Leisure is a travel website, but gives more than just touristic highlights of the Hoover Dam. It offers a decent historical account of how and why the dam was built.
5.) [http://www.7wonders.info/hoover-dam.php] 7 Wonders of the World, Hoover Dam, 1998-2009
The 7 Wonders website lists the 7 Wonders of the Modern, Historical, Mechanical, (etc..) World. Hoover Dam undoubtably made it to the list of one of the wonders of the modern world. This Website goes into detail to account how the dam was built, why it was built, and the conditions which is was built under.
6.)[http://www.usbr.gov/lc/hooverdam/faqs/powerfaq.html] Hydropower at the Hoover Dam, Recreation Reclaimation, 1999, reviewed February, 2009
The second USBR source I used is focused on facts about how the Hoover Dam runs and functions. It explains in great detail how the turbines work, and where the ideas came from. Additionally, it offers statistics of how the dam is effecting people on the West coast still today.
7.) http://news.mongabay.com/2008/0608-ucsc_cannon_totoaba.html]
Dried up Colorado Takes Toll on Giant Mexican Fish, John C. Cannon, June 8, 2008-2010
Mongabay is an environmental-awareness website, and the page which I sourced is about the nearly-extinct Mexican Totoaba fish. The article explains the toll the Hoover Dam has taken on this species, and offers a more pessimistic view, different than most of my other sources.
